Best Grooming tools for doodles

With that in mind, here are some of the best and most essential tools that I have found to keep your dog looking and feeling their best!

Combs and brushes

Without a doubt the most import tool you will need is a good comb and brush. A good brush will keep your dogs hair smooth, tidy and free of tangles.

A slicker brush is the first brush that you will need. A slicker brush has small metal pins which work to straighten and align the hairs on your dog so their coat is smooth and free from tangles.
You can find slicker brushes in all shapes and sizes and at all different prices, but if you are committed to brushing your dog regularly then you should consider investing in a good high quality brush, as not only will it last longer but it will also be much more efficient at getting knots and tangles out of your dogs hair.

This brush is in our opinion the very best brush you can buy to keep your dogs coat smooth and tangle free. It's high quality construction and durability means it keeps its shape and keeps working even when faced with difficult knotted fur. The large head with up to 40% more pins than competitors ensure that it makes short work of brushing out the fur of large dogs.
PROS:
  • Efficient at removing tangles
  • High quality construction
  • Durable
  • Large head (less time spent brushing)
  • Great for large dogs
CONS:
  • Expensive
  • Not ideal for puppies or small dogs

After you have straightened out their hair with a slicker brush then you will need to use a steel comb to get down through their undercoat to the skin to ensure that their hair is knot free all the way from the skin to the tip. Failure to do this will mean that although their hair looks fine at first glance, it can actually be full of knots close to the skin. This means when you actually do take your do to the groomer then they will most likely be forced to shave all of your doodles hair off rather than go through the long and painful process of trying to brush the knots out.

A good comb will have rounded tips to the pins so they don’t scratch your pups skin and will have wide and narrow teeth to allow you to get through any knots you find.
